Bowling Club
In March 1988 an inaugral meeting was held in the Village Hall to discuss the construction of a bowling green on one corner of the cricket field. Several people attended and offered donations to support the project. A Committee was formed consisting of Chairman Mr Norman Williamson, Secretary Mr Bob Brown and Treasurer Mrs Mary Sylvester.
A group of villagers then volunteered to undertake the manual work that would be required to start the construction of the green. Following the meeting, work started with the draining and levelling fo the ground.
The volunteers, headed by the Chairman Norman Williamson, Leon Brownbridge, Frank Ellis, Don Sylvester, George Turton and several others, worked every weekend from March 1988 to September 1988 when the ground was seeded. During that time the workers were kept very well fed on site with cooked Saturday and Sunday lunches provided by their wives.
The Green was opened for play in May 1989 and Fishlake Bowling Club joined the Goole and District Bowling Association in 1993.
The Bowls Club has a membership fom Fishlake and surrounding villages and towns. Players enjoy social and/or League bowling, a covered viewing area for spectators and the facilities of a very comprehensive Clubhouse.
Applications for membership are warmly welcomed.
